MYRTLE BEACH
Hola hola fam, Wow I hope y'all are doing great! I am in Myrtle
Beach. :)) Well here's what y'all missed...
I got transferred and had to leave Boiling Springs... ahh it was so sad.
I really loved it there. It was just a small ward so you knew everyone and they
loved us. It was really sad to say goodbye to everyone. They really all just
felt like family. It was especially sad to say goodbye to Hermana Jensen. 6
months together will totally give a person separation anxiety. Anyway, we said
goodbye to all our favorite peeps which always makes my heart so so sad.
MYRTLE BEACH!!! Woot woot. Well we have been greeted by the heat and
received a nice warm welcome from the mosquitos. I currently have 27 bites.
Also, it is SO HOT. I think about how it's only going to get hotter and want to
cry a little. We go outside and we're literally dripping sweat. People answer
the doors and we're dripping sweaty and people don't even question it, they're
like "yeah.. It really is that hot." I am with Hermana Jones, she's
from St George and we've been out about the same amount of time. We
get along really well and are constantly laughing. She loves to work hard so
we're gonna see some milagros.
We white washed in and took over the English Sisters area. We are now
doing English and Spanish work... Honestly.. It's so hard. (Also, this ward is
huge and I am trying to remember everyone but it's totally going to be
impossible. There is also always tons of visitors on vacation so keeping track
is insane) I am so incredibly awkward when I talk about the gospel in English.
And people aren't always very nice. #biblebelt. It's just been interesting
because we came into the area with tons of potential investigators and people
we are teaching and working with. English work really is just so different than
what we've been doing. We tried to do the same thing we did with Spanish...
It's been a lot of trial and error. We are figuring it out slowly. President Innes
told us he wanted us to do 50/50 Spanish and English. We came in with nobody in
our area book that spoke Spanish. We are building from the ground up. We have
been hunting down where they live and trying to build a teaching pool. Ahhh
good times. We are finding all day every day. I honestly have never worked so
hard. Good news is things are picking up. We are starting English classes and
took them to the Tiendas all over the city. We have a lot of people who have
called us and are planning to come. We are starting them on the 20th and are so
pumped!!
Well background on the area. There used to be a Myrtle Beach Spanish
branch and it was dissolved about 3 years ago. There are only about 3 Hispanics
now attending church. We are on the hunt to track them down and hopefully start
something up here. We translated sacrament on Sunday which was awesome. Our
first Sunday here was fast Sunday!!! It was sooo cool and one of the most
spiritual meetings. Bishop Latham got up and bore his testimony about personal
revelation. He talked about how he felt impressed that something had to be done
for the Spanish members. The mission president had the same impression, both
Hermana Jones and I had wanted to come help, and that is why we are here. The
whole meeting was then about Spanish work and missionary work and what we are
going to do to get it started. The spirit was so strong and everyone was
pumped. Also, just knocking we've met a lot of potential people!
Well I'll just give you the highlights. We have had a lot of failed
contacts but that's alright. Our first day here we were doing a bible referral.
We both don't know what we're doing with English and God literally just helped
us all day. He gave us knew investigators and success with our investigators, I
think it was him giving us some encouragement.
TEMPLE!!! I didn't email last week because we got to go to the temple as
a mission. They split us up in 4 groups and it was so cool. We went on
Wednesday morning and it was so special. I hadn't realized how much I missed
the temple and the spirit that is felt there. I was beyond happy. It was also
really cool to be there with all the missionaries, to hear them pray for us, to
feel the spirit together! All the Spanish missionaries went in the same session
and that was so cool. I got to see Hermana Bowers. Pretty much I took the
temple for granted before the mission and hope all of you can go often and love
it. It really is the place that we can go to be in God's presence.
So last night, it's the end of the night and the end of the week. We had
done finding practically all day every day and had not found anyone!!! We both
were like no way.. Heavenly Father, we are not going home until we find
someone. We ended up street contacting and knocking during our dinner hour and
we found Hugo. He was sent straight from God. We saw a lot of little miracles
yesterday. We were walking and this guy kept pulling up next to us to see if we
needed a ride (not in a creepy kidnapper way, but in like the really friendly
it's WAY hot outside kinda way) he came back around and gave us his number,
water, and a huge thing of cookies. We were out finding so we just had to stuff
everything in our bags but it was so cute and sweet.
Well folks I have no more time today.
