Harry
Potter and President Uchtdorf
This week was good. Hard but good. I have learned that when something
happens I just have to distract myself and my thoughts and lose myself in the
work. I felt a lot of heavenly help this week. I just am doing so much better
than I expected to be doing and I know that it is because I am doing what I am
supposed to and living worthy of the Spirit. We worked really hard this week.
We focused a lot on the members and trying to build those relationships as well
as the investigators already in our teaching pool and helping them
progress.
We finally got to see Raquel again!!!!! We were nervous because
sometimes when you meet someone cool they disappear and when you finally see
them again it's just not as great. NOT WITH RAQUEL!!!!! She had read the first
chapter of the Book of Mormon like we asked. But she read it like 5 times so
that she could understand. She had a list of questions. 1-Why does Nephi say
Yea so many times. Why not yes? 2- Why was Jerusalem going to be destroyed?
3-What type of book did the Angel deliver to Lehi? 4-It is said that Lehi wrote
down his own record. Do we have a Book of Lehi??? WHAT?!?!?!? It was so cool
talking to her and explaining it all. She is only 20ish and just has such a
desire to know. We taught her the Plan of Salvation and she loved it. She just
kept saying how it made sense and it felt so right. The spirit was really
strong. She expressed that she is waiting to get baptized until she feels like
she has matured and knows and has accepted God. We are going to talk more about
that with her Tomorrow because we don't need to be perfect.
Robert Lopez has been one of our investigators for a while. He was kinda
a miracle and we know that God put us in his life exactly when he was willing
to change. He has changed so much since we met him. He is happier, calmer, and
just noticed God answering his prayers. The change he has made is one that you
can physically see in him. It is really cool. Last night, we put Robert on date
for April 7th. He is very excited to get baptized and understands what it
actually means and what he's committing to.
We can no longer go to Hatcher with the Elders so we went to the soup
kitchen with the Inman sisters on Wednesday morning. I felt like I was transported
into a whole new world. It's at a Baptist church and we just helped serve the
food and it was so fun. I just was laughing the whole time. It is 5 southern
black ladies in one kitchen and there is sass all around. At the end, they give
out food for the people to take home. Our job is to make sure that everyone
only takes one. I felt like the mermaid in the fourth Harry Potter that yells
at Harry for trying to save Ron and Hermione "ONLYYYY ONE."
On Friday night, we slept in Greer at the 5th sister’s apartment. The
floor just isn't as comfy as I remember it being and I really missed my bed.
But on Saturday we had a lot of funny contacts. We first saw Hermana Esperanza.
She is just this old single lady from Uruguay and is so funny and made us this
sandwich thing. I didn't really love it and had eaten lunch right before so
wasn't hungry. She asked if I wanted more. No that's okay Hermana. "You
didn't like it?"(which is essentially a challenge to eat more.) "I
would love more Hermana." As we are talking with her she was showing us
her Gospel Library app. She'd been listening to General Conference. I asked her
which talk was her favorite. She stumbles over the name but it was enough to
know she said Elder Uchtdorf. "Hermana! He is mine!!" - Me "OHHHHHHH
NO. He is MINE!" For the next 15 minutes she told us all about the crush
she has on Elder Uchtdorf and how dreamy he is. She told us all about how she
commented on his Facebook and used Google translate to put it in English she
said "The only thing more beautiful than your talk is you." So if you
get a report of an old lady who loves Elder Uchtdorf a little too much. Don't
be alarmed she's harmless it's just Hermana Esperanza.
Today for P-day we went to the Colecio's. Aurora taught us how to cook
like a MEXICANA. We made Taquitos y arroz y salsa. Most importantly I learned
that "if a woman can't flip tortillas with her hands... she's too young
for you."
Well I hope that everyone has the best week. I love being a missionary.
I have felt so much love from the people all around me this week. I know that
God loves us and he has a plan for us. He is sending people and blessings to us
that can help us most in life. Life is so good. Families are forever. The
church is true. If you don't know for yourself. Do what it takes to find
out.
Con mucho amor
Hermana Crofts
