"iGORDO,
GORDO... CALLETE!"
HOLA FAM,
Well it has been a super long week! I feel like there is so much to tell
that this email might be a mess. Oh well, that's okay. At this point I am
sure it's just my parents and grandma reading the whole thing. 😊
Well this week we went and tried to visit about all the members and less
active members to just give them a treat and say hello!! We divided and
conquered with the Elders and it worked out well!! The Elders made the cookies
with Hermana Modesto and we went and took them around with her. I was crying in
the car because she just makes me laugh so hard. She's the grumpiest little
Abuelita I've met and we love her. 😉
We had a cool experience with Carlos. I don't remember if I told you
about him before but he studied with the missionaries before and a couple
months ago was praying he'd get in contact with them again! A couple weeks
later, he was riding his bike and saw the English sisters and literally chased
them down to tell them he wasn't ready before, but he is now! So they sent us
over. He lives in Winnsboro which is about 30-40 from the church. He currently
has no transportation besides his bike, and there aren't any members that live
out there. He is so prepared for the gospel!! We challenged him to be baptized
and he was so excited but very realistic about the transportation situation. We
read 1 Nephi 3:7 and all 3 knelt down and prayed about a date and knew God
would provide a way for him to be baptized that day and come to church
consistently. We prayed and he chose his date. He chose February 16, 3 months
out. I look up to Hermana Morgan snickering because that is 8 days after I go
home. We're going to see a miracle for
sure! Please keep Carlos in your prayers.
On Halloween, we had English Class. We wanted to do something fun, and
the lesson that day was on cooking. We did a fun little activity and had them
learn to read recipes in English. It was hilarious. Don't worry, we helped
them, we didn't just sit back and laugh. The team that had the best pumpkin
chocolate chip cookies was the team with 5 men that work construction haha.
We had a funny lesson on Sunday night. We have taught Gilberto a couple
of times and always meet him at the park down the street. This particular day
it was raining and so we met at his trailer. His roommates were home and they
all 3 sat down. Jose and Gilberto were listening and super attentive, Gordo (I
forgot his name, and that is what they called him) on the other hand was super
confused about our beliefs. He is Catholic and ended up just yelling at us. We
kept trying to calm him down and Jose and Gilberto just kept yelling
"GORDO, CALLETE!" I honestly didn't know whether to laugh or cry; it
was just really funny. After about 5 minutes, they asked Gordo to leave, and we
taught in peace. It was actually a really powerful lesson and the Spirit was
super strong!
Today, we went to the temple. Wow do I miss the temple. I miss going to
the temple more than I miss my family!! We got to do sealing to parents and an
endowment session. I had one of the sweeter experiences of my life as we were
there. It was so cool to see how Heavenly Father truly answers prayers and
loves each of us. He will make sure that we feel loved. The main thing that
stuck out to me was that sometimes we are meant to swim in deep waters, we are
asked to do really hard things, but Heavenly Father is so aware of that and
will never leave us without comfort. Wow do I love knowing that I am a child of
God, and teaching others that they are too. I love being a missionary!
Con Amor
